Showing information of Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI Highline - Diesel variant

Tiguan highlights

Volkswagen launched the second-gen Tiguan in the Indian market in May this year. It is available in two variants – Comfortline and Highline – and is priced at Rs 27.98 lakh and Rs 31.38 lakh, respectively (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). The Tiguan becomes the first VW model in India to feature VW Group's MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform.

Currently, the Tiguan only comes with an option of a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine (143PS/340Nm) mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DSG). The ARAI-certified mileage of the Tiguan diesel is 17.06kmpl. A petrol version could be introduced at a later stage.

Loaded to the gills, the Tiguan comes with standard features such as auto LED headlamps, three-zone climate control, electronically adjustable and heated front seats, and six airbags, among others.

The VW Tiguan goes up against the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and the Jeep Compass along with the body-on-frame SUVs such as the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X.

Not every car is perfect when it comes to good packaging. VW Tiguan is one such car that ticks all the right boxes. I recently purchased the new Volkswagen Tiguan and I have to say that the car is a real beauty. Almost in every aspect, the vehicle shows its amazing capability. The new Tiguan is the first offering from VW to feature the newest MQB (Modular transverse matrix) platform. Tiguan's positioning is little ambiguous, but the charm of Volkswagen cars usually lies in their solid build ... 15

Got the vehicle in October 2017. To my surprise the vehicle which i got had a touch screen infotainment system, which wasn't there on the test drive vehicle, due to this android auto and apple car play was also added. This car is very easy to drive in the city due to electro-mechanical steering and its handles amazingly well on the highway. The fuel efficiency i got on the highway was 15.6km/l, which was really good for a car in this category. For the price, its much more loaded than the oth... 10

Volkswagen Tiguan review

CarDekho Verdict

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a very well packaged SUV with an extensive equipment list and superb driving dynamics. Yes, it isn’t an SUV in the traditional sense of the word but then again it isn’t gunning the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour anyway. Volkswagen has set its sights higher and is pitting the Tiguan against entry-level luxury models such as the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Taking on the luxury giants won’t be an easy task because of their strong brand pull, however, what could work against them is their significantly higher price and that’s what Volkswagen hopes to capitalise on. In fact, the most affordable of that lot is the BMW X1 sDrive 20d, which costs nearly Rs 32 lakh before taxes. The Tiguan, on the other hand, feels like a premium SUV, is phenomenally well equipped and offers most of its features as standard, including 4WD and LED headlamps. Plus, it drives well, looks good, is much more affordable than its rivals and will have lower running costs as well. Keeping these factors in mind, the Tiguan is a viable option for anyone looking for a premium and well-built German SUV.

Background & Evolution

It isn’t a household name in India, the Tiguan, but it is now in its second-generation, having sold around 3.5 million units worldwide in its maiden iteration. While the gen-1 model, introduced in 2007, was based on the Golf’s PQ35 platform, the new model employs the VW group’s MQB platform, which also underpins several cars from Skoda and Audi. Interestingly, the old model was only made in Wolfsburg, Germany, before production expanded to Russia and China. This new car, though, is made in India with the engine put together in Pune and the SUV assembled in Aurangabad.

Volkswagen Tiguan: Things We Like And Things We Don't

Having showcased their new SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo, Volkswagen India finally launched the Tiguan in May this year. While the Comfortline variant is priced at Rs 27.98 lakh, the top-spec Highline variant is priced at Rs 31.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Although the Tiguan is quite expensive when compared to its direct rival, the Hyundai Tucson, it does justify the price tag with additional features. Now, after driving the Tiguan on Indian soil, here’s a list of things we like and don't like about Volkswagen's new SUV.     Read Full News
