Showing information of Nissan Kicks XV Premium D - Diesel variant

Kicks highlights

Latest Update: Nissan is offering a variety of accessories to customise their new Kicks SUV, and you can read about them here. But if you’re looking to buy the Kicks and want to know which variant we think offers the most value for money, click here. Wondering which colour of the new Nissan Kicks is the best for you? Click here to know.

Nissan Kicks Price: The Nissan Kicks is available with both petrol and diesel engines, depending upon the variant. The petrol options are priced between Rs 9.55 lakh and 10.95 lakh while the diesel-powered variants have prices ranging between Rs 10.85 lakh and 14.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Nissan Kicks Engines: Nissan’s Kicks SUV comes with a choice of engines and transmissions: a 1.5-litre petrol unit that produces a maximum of 106PS/142Nm mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox; and the other a 1.5-litre diesel engine with an output of 110PS/240Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Unlike its Renault cousins with the same engines, the Kicks does not offer an automatic transmission or AWD option at this time.

Nissan Kicks Variants & Safety Features: The Nissan Kicks is available in four variants: XL, XV, XV Premium and XV Premium Plus. The petrol engine is only offered in the XL and XV variants. In terms of safety, the Kicks gets dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and brake assist, speed-sensing auto lock and rear defogger as standard. The rearview camera and front fog lamps are offered from XV onwards while safety features like front side airbags, rear fog lamps, follow-me-home headlamps and 360-degree camera view are limited to the top-spec XV Premium Plus variant. Notably, the Nissan Kicks SUV does not get ISOFIX child seat anchors, which is a big miss for a car in this segment.

Nissan Kicks Features: Safety aside, Nissan has given the Kicks a well packed equipment list. It has some segment-first features too, such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone compatibility via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and cornering front fog lamps along with LED projector headlamps. In terms of standard features, the Kicks SUV gets auto AC, rear AC vents and cruise control as standard. It also comes with keyless entry via smartcard, hill start assist, dynamic vehicle control and leather upholstery too.

Nissan Kicks Ground Clearance and Boot Space: The Nissan Kicks has a ground clearance of 210mm, the same as the Renault Captur and higher than the likes of the Tata Harrier. In terms of luggage capacity, boot space of the Kicks stands at 400 litres.Nissan Kicks Rivals: Nissan’s new compact SUV competes with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Renault Captur. New competitors are expected to arrive soon as well, such as the Kia SP2i SUV, Skoda’s made-for-India SUV based on the soon-to-be-unveiled Kamiq, Jeep Renegade and Volkswagen T-Cross.

Nissan Kicks review

Things We Like in Kicks

  • Quality interior: Quality of material, fit & finish inside the cabin is better than other cars in this segment
  • Noise insulation: Engine noise, road noise not as audible inside as in siblings (Captur, Duster, Terrano); lifts cabin experience up
  • Mature ride: The ride is supple, but not bouncy. It can handle small and large road uncertainties at any speeds with aplomb
  • 360-degree parking assist: Cameras at the front, rear, and both sides give an all-around view to ease parking; segment-first feature

Things We Don't Like in Kicks

  • Ergonomic issues: Driver’s seat set a little high; particularly uncomfortable for tall drivers. Footwell is too cramped
  • Diesel Low-end drivability: Diesel engine lacks punch at the bottom of the rev range; requires downshifting to pick pace
  • No automatic transmission: Both engines are available with manual transmission only at launch. Automatic transmission with petrol engine is a must for buyers seeking convenience
  • Feature misses: No light for passenger vanity mirror. Top variant misses out on auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, powered driver seat and sunroof

Stand Out Features

  • Automatic air-con: Not a breakthrough feature, but comes standard in Kicks

CarDekho Verdict

"The Kicks' strengths include its strong presence, premium interiors and comfortable ride quality. But, it could do with some added feel good features and an automatic transmission. Recent price cuts should see it gain favour with more buyers."

The Kicks doesn’t feel big despite being amongst the largest cars in its segment. The cabin doesn’t feel spacious either. There are some ergonomic issues as well that might bother some drivers and it’s not the most well-equipped car too, missing out on features like auto-dimming IRVM and sunroof, both of which would have added immensely to its appeal. And then there’s the absence of automatic transmission.

Considering both the pros and cons leads us to the conclusion that the Kicks is a car for those who are looking for a properly stylish compact SUV. It’s for those who appreciate quality and are either buying an additional smaller (relatively) car for the family or want to upgrade their drive experience from an already premium sub-compact vehicle.
