The Aura will based on the Grand i10 Nios, as much as the Xcent is based on the Grand i10
Aura is Hyundai’s upcoming sub-4 metre sedan.
It will be a more premium replacement for the Xcent.
We expect Aura’s front end to mirror that of the Grand i10 Nios.
Its interior as well as feature list will be identical to the Nios.
It will get the same engines as the Grand i10 Nios.
Expect it to be priced in the Rs 6 to Rs 9 lakh bracket.
Hyundai recently revealed that its new sub-4 metre sedan will be called Aura. This will be the successor to the Xcent. So has Hyundai only changed the name of the sedan or will the Aura be a whole new vehicle in itself? Here’s what you can expect.
First of all, the Aura will be a new vehicle in Hyundai’s lineup in the sense that the Xcent would continue to be sold alongside it. However, that does not mean that there will be no similarities between the two. Hyundai is repeating what it has already done with the Grand i10 and Grand i10 Nios. The Xcent will be a less-premium sedan and will be on sale to largely cater to fleet operators. The Aura will be the more premium version of the sedan and will cater to personal car buyers.

In terms of design, we expect the Aura’s front-end to resemble the Grand i10 Nios. The projector headlamps, front grille and to an extent, the contouring of the bumpers are expected to be lifted straight from the Nios. On the sides, the Xcent’s profile will be visible while the rear will be an all new design. The Aura has been spotted testing previously as well and from what we could make out of the camo-covered test mule, the tail lamps will be a split setup.
On the powertrain front, Hyundai should offer the same set of engines as the Nios i.e. the 1.2-litre petrol (83PS/114Nm) and diesel engines (75PS/190Nm). And just like it did with the Nios, we expect Hyundai to offer AMT transmissions apart from manual counterparts for both petrol and diesel variants. Both engines on offer should be BS6 compliant at the time of Aura’s launch.

The Aura is also expected to borrow features from its hatchback counterpart, the Grand i10 Nios. Apart from the dual tone layout for the interior, we also expect it to share the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger and rear AC vents from the Nios.
The Aura is expected to go on sale at the Auto Expo 2020. We expect Hyundai to price it between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh. Once launched, it will go up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor and Volkswagen Ameo.
