Showing information of Ford Freestyle Titanium Plus Diesel - Diesel variant

Freestyle highlights

Ford Freestyle variants and price: Ford India has priced the Freestyle quite aggressively, it falls in the range of Rs 5.23 lakh to Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is available in four variants - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. Head over to the launch news for more info here.

Ford Freestyle engine: Based on the upcoming Figo facelift, the Ford Freestyle can be had with two engines - a 1.2-litre petrol (96PS/120Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel motor (100PS/215Nm). Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Sadly, it doesn’t get an automatic transmission just yet. Between the two, it’s the petrol engine that feels punchy and smooth.

Ford Freestyle safety features: Ford is always known to bring cars loaded with a best-in-class safety kit. The Ford Freestyle is no different and scores high on safety with six airbags, ABS with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), ESC (electronic stability control) and TCS (traction control system) along with ARP (active rollover prevention). With a ground clearance of 190mm, the Ford Freestyle rides 16mm higher than the Figo.

Ford Freestyle features: It gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Ford’s latest SYNC3 infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include automatic climate control, passive keyless entry with push-button engine start-stop, auto dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM), auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

Ford Freestyle rivals: The Ford Freestyle rivals the Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and even the Maruti Swift and Tata Nexon.

Great car in this segment. I have considered Maruti and Hundai before booking freestyle. I was pretty open about the car segment(Hatch Or sedan Or cross-over), However the budget constraint was below 9L. I did test drive of many cars (Dzire, Nexon, Baleno, grand i10, Amaze), None of them gave that outstanding feel to choose over freestyle. Wonderful handling, so many safety features(Hill assist, stability program, so on), great power which amazed me, decent interior, killer exterior, ground clea... 5

To all those people seeking to know about the petrol variant, here is my review. I bought this car in June, I suppose 5th in Chennai and 1st in absolute black. Its the most superior car you would find in this price segment compared to Hyundai Grand and Swift. First word out of my mouth "Happy Driving". If ur an driving enthusiast you will love this car. It has got the best pickup, post 2000rpm can be compared to the likes of other car with best pickups. Seating yes ford offers a great dr... 8

Ford Freestyle review

Things We Like in Freestyle

  • New slick-shifting 5-speed manual available with both the engines; significantly improved shift quality over the previous unit
  • No compromise on the safety front as the Freestyle Titanium and Titanium+ variants come equipped with ESP (electronic stability program), TC (traction control) and HLA (hill hold assist).
  • Dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors are offered as standard in the Ford Freestyle
  • Mature ride quality; the Freestyle practically absorbs the undulations better than the Figo/Aspire with improved damping
  • 190mm of ground clearance is adequate for both on and off road conditions
  • The diesel version gets the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre TDCI engine that also powers the Figo, Aspire and the EcoSport
  • The Ford Freestyle gets a new, punchy 1.2-litre petrol engine (96PS/120Nm), which also happens to be the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in its class

Things We Don't Like in Freestyle

  • The Ford Freestyle doesn’t offer an automatic variant, unlike the Figo and the Aspire
  • Absence of projector headlamps, daytime running lamps and LED tail lamps in the Ford Freestyle may be a turn off for some
  • Figo-related issues - limited cabin space, sub-par material quality, non-adjustable rear headrests, lack of reach adjustment for the steering wheel and driver’s armrest.

Stand Out Features

  • Emergency assist: the SYNC 3 system automatically sends your GPS location to emergency services in a mishap through the connected phone

CarDekho Verdict

The Ford Freestyle's prices start at Rs 5.09 lakh for the base petrol and Rs 6.09 lakh for the base diesel (introductory prices, ex-showroom, Pan-India). At this point in time, the Freestyle is around 40K cheaper than the base petrol and diesel variants of the Figo. This makes it quite hard to resist not only over the Figo, but also its rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Ignis an the Toyota Etios Cross, especially when you consider its impressive ride quality. Other factors that help its case are the raised ground clearance, the punchy new petrol engine, the slick-shifting gearbox and the amount of safety tech that is on offer. The diesel engine, on the other hand, continues to be as capable and potent as before. The only downside of the Freestyle is the lack of an automatic option at a time when every other carmaker is offering AMTs and CVTs.

"The Figo has started to show its age. The Freestyle, on the other hand, is not only practical but also adds more zeal to the package."
