Latest Update: Nissan has introduced a special edition of the Terrano, called the ‘Sport’. It is based on the second-last XL(O) variant, which is offered exclusively with the 85PS version of the 1.5-litre diesel (85PS/200NM). Check out what it offers extra over the regular model here

Nissan Terrano engine and variants: The Nissan Terrano is available with two engine options: a 1.6-litre petrol (104PS/148Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel motor (available in two states of tune: 85PS/200Nm and 110PS/245Nm). The petrol and the 85PS diesel are available with a 5-speed manual transmission. An automated-manual transmission is offered optionally with the 110PS unit besides the standard 6-speed manual. The top-spec XV variant get safety features such as ESP (electronic stability program), TC (traction control) and hill launch assist. The Nissan Terrano rides 205mm off the ground.

Nissan Terrano rivals: The Nissan Terrano competes against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster along with the Renault Captur.

Since its inception in the year 2013, I was really fond of Nissan Terrano. The way it was designed was truly awe-inspiring. And since it has been built on the same platform as of Duster, the build quality and trust was unquestionable. I thought to purchase a compact SUV last year in June and fortunately, just two months before Nissan launched the updated model of Terrano. I was truly excited to know this and the once I test drove the car, the decision to buy was inevitable. The 2017 model has re... 11

Nissan Terrano review

Things We Like in Terrano

  • 205mm of ground clearance. More than enough for Indian roads.
  • Six-speed AMT gearbox is well-tuned. Great to use in the city and on the highway.
  • Duster’s ride quality and tough nature in a more stylish package.
  • Diesel engine offers great driveability and efficiency.

Things We Don't Like in Terrano

  • Cannot match the finish quality or features of its rival, the Hyundai Creta.
  • No all-wheel drive option even though its more affordable cousin gets it.
  • Interior quality, while better than the Duster, is only acceptable for the price.

Stand Out Features

  • Six-speed manual transmission with 110PS diesel engine for improved highway cruise-ability and efficiency.

Six-speed manual transmission with 110PS diesel engine for improved highway cruise-ability and efficiency.

CarDekho Verdict

The Nissan Terrano is a good alternative for someone who wants the Duster’s core qualities, but without drawbacks like the Renault’s poor interior quality. It’s also a good SUV to drive and has a practical cabin, including a big boot.

"However, at its price, it feels under-equipped and the higher-variants are priced dangerously close to the XUV500, which is not only well-equipped, but can seat two more occupants as well."

It is an upgrade to the Duster, but that’s its only real selling point.
