Bajaj Qute Quadricycle Gets Govt Nod; To Launch In India Soon
The Bajaj quadricycle is expected to make its way to showrooms in the next 2-3 months
The Bajaj Qute, formally known as the RE60, has been given a green light from the government to be sold as a commercial quadricycle, an all-new category of vehicles in the country. The Qute is not a replacement for an entry-level car, rather it is a step-up from an auto-rickshaw. It will be launched later in October in the market and will be rolled out city by city, depending on the permits. Adhering to the quadricycle norms, the Qute is powered by a 216.6cc, liquid-cooled DTS-i engine which can run on petrol, CNG and LPG. It makes a decent 13PS/19.15Nm while running on petrol; 10.8PS/16.1Nm on CNG, and 12.4 PS/18.2Nm when powered by LPG. The core value of the Qute is its low running and maintenance cost, and the 'car' delivers a claimed mileage of 35kmpl while running on petrol and an impressive 45km/kg while running on CNG. We have driven the Qute and if you wish to know more about it, check out the first drive review here.

The Bajaj Qute is a very simple, yet a very complicated 4 wheeler. Simple because all the components used to make it are very basic to keep the running and maintenance cost low. And complicated because it's not only something new in our market, it has created an entire category for itself.
"If you compare it to an auto-rickshaw, the Qute is definitely a step up in term of the safety, weather protection and the ride quality, for both the passengers and the driver."
But, though it has a low running and maintenance cost, it costs Rs 2.7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to buy one, which is slightly more than a three wheeler. Given the advantages it offers, it seems to be a fair trade. Also, as of now, it's only available as a commercial vehicle in the market.

Recent rumours have led many to believe Bajaj has finally launched a new budget car/the Qute quadricycle in India. We clear the air on the matter.
Bajaj Qute RE60 has been spied once again testing. The four-wheeler quadricycle was caught on camera in Jaipur city of Rajasthan. It was revealed in September last year and the official launch is still pending in the Indian market, awaiting Supreme court go ahead. The quadricycle can deliver mileage of 36kmpl.
Bajaj Auto has launched its first quadricycle, the RE 60 (Qute) at approximately $2000. RE 60 was first showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi and is being termed as a quadricycle and not a car.
One of India’s leading motorcycle manufacturer, Bajaj, has been developing its first four wheeler, the RE60 for quite some time. Though, it is not the technical development that has hindered the launch, but it is some legal issue that the manufacturer is facing regarding the class of automobile it will fall in. Despite this, Bajaj is putting it’s points so as to bring it here as soon as possible. The company is currently showcasing it at the Ceylon Motor Show taking place in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
